Square candle holder finishing tutorial

This is just a brief tutorial since someone asked me how I finished these pieces.  I found square candle holders at Hobby Lobby that were on sale for half price.  They were about $2.00 on sale.

The materials I used are pictured here.  Missing is two layers of felt backing I used between the matboard and the stitching to give it a rounded appearance.

The flat surface was 4" square so I cut scrapbooking paper to fit, then used double stick tape to tape the paper to the bottom of the candle holder for a neater appearance.  Pictured here is the backside of the candle holder.  I used the paper to cover the back of the laced cross stitch piece.

After lacing the piece to the matboard, I then glued it to the scrapbook paper already taped to the bottom of the candle holder.

Here is the finished project.  There is nothing over the cross stitching to protect it, but I decided it will only be on display for a few months during the spring/summer so it should be ok on my mantle.  I know there aren't a lot of pictures, but the process literally took 15 minutes to finish.
