Stitch the Winter Olympics: Medal Ceremony

Welcome to day 16!  Today we were supposed to stitch on something with flowers or a floral motif.  Again I chose Hummingbird's Garden by Samplers Not Forgotten.  What is so ironic about stitching this today is that I finished it!!  I think I deserve a medal...hahaha.  This was supposed to be my blessings sampler, but I just ran out of time in January....but thankfully it's finished now.  I say it's serendipitous that I finished it today.  I stitched this in honor of my Mom who loved hummingbird's.  I thought about her a lot while I was stitching this, I wish she could see it, I know she would have loved it.  It's stitched on 40 count Moonstone over two.  I have tons of pictures because I wanted to show all the specialty stitches that are in this piece and you can see why it took me so long to finish it.  I can't wait to get it framed.  

I'm not sure what I'll do with the rest of my day, I probably should do something productive.  They are predicting another bomb cyclone to hit sometime tomorrow into Monday.  I've seen predictions anywhere from 1 to 12 inches...who knows how much we will get.  We are pretty well stocked from the last one that hit (the snow from that storm back in January finally melted YESTERDAY)  Oh well, old man winter sure is having a lovely time this year!  LOL  

I'm off to look for a pattern I have been searching for since Christmas.  I stitched it, finished it, then gave it away and now it's time I stitched it for myself!  LOL!!  I hope wherever you are that you are safe, warm, and happily stitching! 

Stitch The Winter Olympics: Bobsled

Welcome to Day 15!  Today we were supposed to stitch something we are trying to stay on track with.  I chose Hummingbird's Garden as I'm really hoping to finish before the end of the month.  Ooooh I'm so close to being finished!  Maybe tomorrow?  And then I'll give you something else to look at...haha.  #stitchthewinterolympics

Stitch the Winter Olympics: Figure Skating

Welcome to Day 14!  #stitchthewinterolympics Today we were supposed to stitch on something with letters or numbers.  I chose Hummingbird's Garden that has words.  I had the whole day to stitch, so I made pretty good progress.  I think, if things go as planned, I'll be finished with this before the month is out.  

I have to say, I slept until 8:00 this morning which is really unheard of for me.  I'm usually up between 5:30 and 6:00 AM.  Imagine how much more I would have stitched if I had been awake earlier?!?!  Anyway, I feel more rested today, so I'm going to bed soon and hope to get a good night's sleep tonight too!  

I have to say Congratulations! to the USA's Women's Hockey team who won gold today.  I have been cheering them on through most of their games.  They were behind most of the game and with less than 2 minutes before the end of the game made the goal that tied the game and put them in a sudden death overtime.  It was a nail biter for sure.  I'm so happy for the team captain and the rest of the team.  Ok, Max (our cat) is meowing for his last snack of the day and a brush (yes he's spoiled).  Then I'm off to bed.  I hope wherever you are you are safe, warm, and happily stitching!  Goodnight!  

Stitch The Winter Olympics

Welcome to Day 13!  Today we were to stitch something of our choice to stay on Target.  I chose to stitch on Hummingbird's Garden as I would like to finish this before the month is out.  It was supposed to be my blessings sampler that I would finish in January...so let's hope I can finish it this month.  Here is where I finished tonight.

I didn't have a lot of time to stitch today, as Miss Q spent the day here today.  She's a busy little one!  LOL  She's doing her best to learn to walk, so she's cruising along the furniture and will stand for short periods on her own.  I'm going to need skates to keep up with her soon!  I love that I can make her laugh, and she has such a cute laugh.  I didn't have time to take pictures today...maybe next time.  I've already decided tomorrow will be a pajama day and I'm going to stitch the day away.  What will I stitch?  You'll have to come back tomorrow and see!  I hope you all are enjoying the Olympics...Happy Stitching!   

Stitch The Winter Olympics: Olympic Village

Welcome to day 12!  Today we were supposed to stitch something with a house or building.  I originally thought I would stitch on Let Freedom Ring...that has a pretty big building...haha.  And then I thought after spending the day with our rambunctious 4 year old I would stitch on Peppermint Candy by Blackberry Lane Designs.  It's smaller, and easier for this tired old Granny to stitch...hahaha.  I didn't stitch long so didn't make too much progress...so here is where I left off.  

Today I had a visit from Little Miss Sassy Pants.  We had a wonderful day!  First we played with her new Bluey stamp set.  She enjoyed this for quite a while.  

Then we made cookies!  She was a little impatient waiting for the cookies to bake...

Then she made me a delicious lunch at her restaurant.  This kid has quite an imagination.  I won't go into all the detail, but she had me in stitches with the stories she was telling!

I will have Miss Q tomorrow...what a week this has been.  Hopefully she won't be too much to handle tomorrow.  I'm beat!  LOL!!  She was here for a short while today, and she thought she would be like her big sister and pick up her little folding chair.  She stood in the middle of the floor and picked up the chair...without holding on to anything.  This little peanut will be walking very VERY soon!!  I'll have to hold on to my hat when that happens, because I'll be on the run with her.  She's already a speed demon on hands and knees, I can't imagine what it will be like on two feet!!  Ok, I'm off to bed, I'm going to need extra sleep to handle her tomorrow!  Happy Stitching! 

Stitch the Winter Olympics: Nordic Combined

Welcome to day 11!  Today we were to stitch something that is part of a series.  The closest thing I could come up with was another letter from Merry Christmas by Owl Forest Designs.   I started these letters quite a while ago.  I only have 3 left, so here I am starting the M in Christmas.  It's been a weird day, with DH having the day off for the President's Day holiday.  I rarely get any stitching done when he's home.  LOL.  I did get a little start on the M, so here is how far I got today...and a picture of what the letters look like for reference.  

Tomorrow Little Miss Sassy Pants will be here.  I've been looking forward to having a Gigi day with her for months.  One of our errands today was to find a craft at Hobby Lobby.  I found a stamping kit, so this should be fun to see what her creative little mind will come up with!  Anyway, I'm off to go to bed.  Somewhere along the way today my fever came back and I feel like I'm slogging through wet cement.  I have Miss Q on Wednesday, then I'm going to see a Dr.  This is getting old really fast.  I hope everyone is safe and cozy....Happy Stitching! 

Stitch The Winter Olympics: Hockey

Welcome to day 10, where we were supposed to stitch toward a GOAL.  You all know I'm trying to finish Let Freedom Ring before July 4th, so that is the project I picked for today.  I guess I'm still tired from yesterday...haha...I kept making mistake after mistake...but by the end of the night I had FINALLY finished the cupola.  Yay!!  All that outlining nearly drove me insane (not that I had far to go).    

Tomorrow I'm off to Hobby Lobby to pick up a craft to teach Little Miss Sassy Pants who is coming to spend the day with me Tuesday.  I can't wait!  I hope everyone is safe and warm.  Happy Stitching!

Stitch The Winter Olympics: Snowboarding

Welcome to Day 9 and today we were to stitch on something from our favorite designer.  I chose Peppermint Candy by Blackberry Lane Designs.  I have stitched quite a few of Marie Driskill's designs.  I don't know what it is that attracts me to them, but I enjoy the intricate patterns and attention to detail.  Not to mention a lot of them are religious patterns that pertain to the Christmas story.  Anyway, this was a recent purchase so it was perfect timing that I start it this soon.  I love the idea of the front and back of the little house...so cute!  

I stayed up later than I should and finished off Pumpkin on Gingham by The Sweetheart Tree last night.  All it needs now is to be framed...hopefully I'll have a finishing day soon but it's not looking likely that it will happen in the next week or so...lol.  So watch this space (toward the end of the month).

It's been a wild and crazy few days, and I'm tired.  Miss Sassy Pants spent the night last night, then was joined by her sister while their parents had a date day.  It does your heart good to spend time with the littles, but also giving their parents a break.  I hope they enjoyed their day out.  I will be heading to bed soon,  they totally wiped us out!  LOL!  Happy Valentine's Day and Happy Stitching! 

Stitch the Winter Olympics: Skeleton

Welcome to Day 8!  Today I actually watched the Skeleton races.  I would never have the nerve to race that way...knowing my clutzy self I would run head first into one of those icy turns and break my neck.  I can't imagine going over 70 miles and hour riding on just a thin metal board.  Anyway today we were to stitch something with a Halloween or Fall theme.  I chose Pumpkin on Gingham by The Sweetheart Tree.  I stitched this a long time ago for a pen pal, and have wanted to stitch one for me for ages.  This was the perfect incentive.  

I only have a few minutes here as Little Miss Sassy Pants is here spending the night.  I'm lucky I got this much done....hahaha.  She had a Valentine's Day party today and they loaded her up with candy and cupcakes.  It's going to be a wild night!  Hope all is well in your neck of the woods!  Happy Stitching! 

Stitch The Winter Olympics: Short Track Speed Skating

Day 7 already!  And Yes, I'm a day behind.  I'm hoping I can get the second post up today and get back on track.  Yesterday we were to stitch on something with a border or row of something.  Hummingbird's Garden has both!  I do enjoy stitching on this piece!!  Yesterday I worked on the floral border.  It's slow going because of the confetti stitches and it's hard to see but there are a few specialty stitches in there as well.  I did make more progress than I thought I would.  Here is where I left off last night.  

Little Miss Sassy Pants will be here later today after a Valentine's party she is having a preschool.  We have been invited to the party as her parents won't be able to attend.  So we are picking her up after preschool and bringing her to our house for a sleepover tonight.  Hopefully I'm no longer "contagious" and I don't pass this along to anybody.  The fever is gone and I'm feeling better, so bring on the kiddos!  They make everything feel better don't they?  

Today I'll be working on Day 8:  Skeleton.  We are to stitch something with a Halloween or fall theme.  I'll be stitching on Pumpkin on Gingham by the Sweetheart Tree.  I have had this in my stash for literally years, all kitted up with the fabric, threads, and beads I need.  It's about time I finally got it stitched!  Hopefully I'll be back later today to post my progress.  

We are on day 20 with the snow on the ground.  I heard on the news last night this is the longest the snow has remained from the storm we had nearly 3 weeks ago in years!  While it's pretty, it thaws and refreezes every day making for icy conditions.  There have been a lot of accidents in the area because of black ice.  Needless to say, I'm staying close to home...haha.    I hope everyone is staying safe and warm!  Happy Stitching!

Stitch the Winter Olympics: Curling

Day 6 (a day late haha) and the goal was to stitch something you were encouraged to stitch by a friend or social media so I chose Let Freedom Ring.  I started stitching this because a group had been formed on Facebook to stitch it as a SAL with others who were stitching it for the upcoming 250th anniversary celebration.  I've been doing my best to stitch at least one page a month and sometimes two pages.  So far I've been keeping up though I BARELY made it in December.  Since last July I've stitched 12 pages and am now working on page 3 (I've been working backwards from the 15th page).  I wasn't planning on working again on it (I had already stitched a page this month), but it seems to fit in several categories...haha.  So I guess you'll see it a few more times before the month is out.  So here it is!  #stitchthewinterolympics 

I'm a day late posting, and with a little persistence I'll post again today for Day 7.  I mentioned Tuesday that I was sick...and it really did take a toll on my stitching (didn't get as far as I'd hoped).  I did make it to my hair appointment, but by the end I was really dragging...haha.  So we'll see what I get up to today.  I HAVE to be better by Friday, as Little Miss Sassy Pants is coming to spend the night, with her sister to join us the next day so their parents can have a much anticipated and needed date night!  So I've had my breakfast, a little warm drink, and had my vitamins.  I think I'll take a snooze and see how I feel when I wake up.  I hope all is well in your neck of the woods!  Happy Stitching! 

Stitch the Winter Olympics: Tina and Milo

Welcome to Day 5!  Today we are supposed to stitch something with an animal.  I bounced between two ideas.  I hoped to stitch on Let Freedom Ring (which has a horse in it) and Hummingbird's Garden which has a hummingbird in it.  So...I compromised!  I spent time frogging the incorrect spelling of semiquincentennial and then stitched in the correct spelling!  So....it doesn't look like I made any progress, but next time I pick it up it will be all ready to go!  

Then I picked up Hummingbird's Garden.  I stitched some of the specialty stitches, the crown and the hummingbird...oh and the rest of the letters in the saying.  Yay!  I still need to stitch 3 hearts to the left of the vase, and the rest of the flower border.  Hopefully I can do that the next time I pick up this piece.  #stitchthewinterolympics.  

I was supposed to have my granddaughter here today, but woke up with a fever, sore throat, and a sinus headache.  I've been a little disconnected most of the day so I really hope I didn't make any  mistakes...haha.  We shall see.  So I got a bit farther in my stitching than I thought I would.  Tomorrow I am getting my hair cut.  I'll have to see how I feel in the morning.  This is the pits!!  I don't know where I caught this but I'm done with the sneezing and blowing my nose (which is now in the running for Rudolph's job! haha).  Do I know what I'm stitching tomorrow?  Nope...but I'm sure I'll come up with some idea soon.  I hope you are all well!  Happy Stitching!! 

Stitch the Winter Olympics: Olympic Rings

Welcome to day 4 of the Winter Olympics challenge.  #stitchthewinterolympics  Today we were to stitch with a color from the Olympic Rings: blue, yellow, black, green, red.  I chose to continue stitching Home for the Holidays by The Cozy DH from the 2025 JCS ornament issue because it had three of the colors...Red, black and green.  And...bonus...I was able to finish the stitching!  This was also the JCS Ornament challenge for the month of January.  Always a day late and a dollar short...haha.  

I still hope to fully finish it off, and stitch February's too this month.  We'll see how that goes.  Anyway, this was stitched on 28 count Touch of Grey over one.  I love how it came out so tiny!  

Tomorrow Miss Q will be here so I'm not sure how much I'll get done of my stitching, but hopefully she'll take a couple of naps.  I hope all is well in your neck of the woods!  Happy Stitching! 

Stitch the Winter Olympics: Winter Olympics

Well, I decided to stitch on a Christmas Ornament for today which suggested we stitch something related to winter.  This is called Home for the Holidays by The Cozy DH from the 2025 JCS ornament issue.  I'm stitching it on Touch of Grey 28 count over one.

Someone asked if I watch the Olympics while I'm stitching!  I usually do, but today I haven't found a station this afternoon that is playing the Olympics, it's all about the Super Bowl...haha.  I'll definitely watch them tonight after the game.  Here is where I left off last night after working on American Flag.  I was having troubles seeing the dark green while stitching on the black so I didn't get as far as I'd hoped.  I do love how this is looking though!

Stitch the Winter Olympics: Parade of Nations

Welcome to day two of the Winter Olympics stitching challenge.  Yes I had most of the day to stitch yesterday, so here is where I left off from Hummingbird's Garden.  This will be going back on the back burner for a few days (don't worry I have it scheduled a few times during the challenge.  I REALLY want to finish it this month so my fingers better get flying!!)  I put in over 600 stitches!  Lord knows how many are left...lol.  

The topic for today is Parade of Nations in which we are supposed to stitch something patriotic for any country.  I chose to stitch American Flag by Aysegul Tastepe.  I'm stitching this on 36 count black over one...yes I am crazy...haha.  I fell in love with this pattern when I saw it at the Maryland State Fair two years ago I think.  It took me a while to find it.  I love how it looks so far!  Here is where I'm starting today.  Let's see how far I get on this piece today!

Stitch the Winter Olympics: Opening Ceremonies

Who is up for the challenge?  I just learned a few days ago that The Naptime Stitcher is hosting the "Stitch the Winter Olympics" Challenge.  I did this two years ago when the summer games were held in France.  I do love a good challenge don't you?  You can head over to Facebook where she has a pdf file explaining the challenge, what we are to stitch each day, and a few other things of interest.  Just search for The Naptime Stitcher, scroll down to her January 25th entry and you'll find the pdf file.  I'll be doing my best to keep up!  Today's challenge is to stitch a new start or something you started in 20026.  Since I'm still working on my blessings sampler (Hummingbird's Garden by Samplers Not Forgotten), I'll be stitching most of the day away on this sampler.  Here is where I'm starting today.

Finally making progress!

Well here we are...and things are finally looking up!  The sun is shining today, the government is up and running again, and I feel like I might get some things accomplished today!  I had my youngest granddaughter here yesterday, she just cracks me up.  I had some music playing and she was dancing along to it, she has been doing some things on her own now to keep herself occupied but turns every few seconds to make sure I'm watching, and she is a joy to spend time with.  I'll have my hands full when she finally takes off walking on her own.  

I didn't get a lot of time to stitch yesterday, but I did make some progress after her parents took her home.  I worked on Hummingbird's Garden while we watched TV last night.  I worked on the vase at the bottom.  It's coming along nicely!  

Monday and Tuesday I was able to make some substantial progress on Let Freedom Ring.  I had another page finish and actually put a lot of stitches in the next page too.  I'm hoping to have two pages done by the end of this month.  More than I expected!  Whew!  I was beginning to lose hope I would finish this in time!  I did change some of the words.  Where it was supposed to say "Let Freedom Ring" I changed to America's Semiquincentennial 2026.  I like how it looks!  Edited to say....ooops I just realized I spelled semiquincentennial wrong.  Oh dear!!  I'll have to fix that.  UGH all that over one.  *heavy sigh*.  Oh well, onwards and upwards I always say...

Has anyone else made plans for stitching to the Olympics?  I know it starts tomorrow, and I did make a list of things I hope to stitch for each event.  Maybe tomorrow I'll have time to post what I'll be doing.  For today I'll be working on Hummingbird's Garden again and have chosen a few days during the Olympics to stitch both Hummingbird's Garden and Let Freedom Ring.  I also have a few other things I'm hoping to stitch.  After the chaos of last month, I'm happy to be making any kind of progress....haha.  I especially hope to finish Hummingbird's Garden.  

Ok, I'm off to get my day started.  I slept in quite late this morning so I'll need to get my skates on if I hope to get my regular routine going.  I hope everyone has a great day!  Happy Stitching!
